Tailored, Multi-Disciplinary Care for Tendon Pain and Injuries
Tendons connect muscles to bones and do the heavy lifting when it comes to movement, helping your body absorb and transfer force every day. Tendonitis and tendinopathy can develop from overuse, repetitive strain, sudden spikes in activity, or poor movement patterns, often affecting areas like the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, or Achilles tendon.
Our tailored treatment plans are designed to ease pain, improve movement, and help keep tendon issues from coming back. Your tailored program may include:
- Clinical and physical assessments to determine the severity of tendon irritation or degeneration
- Manual therapy and soft tissue techniques to reduce stiffness and support healing
- Load management strategies to calm pain and prevent further aggravation
- Progressive strengthening programs to help heal the tendon and improve tendon capacity and resilience
- Mobility and flexibility work to optimise joint mechanics
- Neuromuscular retraining to improve movement patterns and reduce overload
- Education and guidance on return-to-sport timelines and long-term tendon health
- Collaboration with our multidisciplinary healthcare team, including physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, and osteopaths, for holistic care

Common Symptoms of Tendinopathy
Tendon irritation or degeneration can cause:
- Localized pain around a tendon that changes with activity – sometimes warms up but can also worsen depending on activity level
- Tenderness when pressing on the affected tendon
- Stiffness after sleeping
- Swelling or thickening around the tendon
- Pain during or after exercise
- Reduced strength in the affected area
- Ongoing discomfort that limits performance or daily movement

Treatment Plans for Tendonitis
Your treatment plan will depend on the location and severity of your tendon condition, your activity levels, and your goals. Common stages include:
- Acute Phase: Reducing pain and irritation, modifying aggravating activities, and introducing gentle loading.
- Rehabilitation Phase: Progressive strength training to improve tendon capacity, along with mobility and movement correction.
- Functional Phase: Gradual return to sport or higher-level activity with structured load progression.
- Prevention Phase: Ongoing strengthening and education to reduce recurrence risk and maintain long-term tendon health.
